Gokyo Ri & Gokyo Lakes Trek – 11 Days

The most convenient way to begin Gokyo Ri’s journey is to take a flight to Lukla, a small region inhabited by Sherpas. During the first day of our expedition, we will catch a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. 

The picturesque trip from Kathmandu towards Lukla is approximately 35 to 45 minutes accompanied by a three-hour uphill and downhill path towards Phakding. It is noteworthy to mention that the arrival at Lukla airport is exhilarating.

Once you have landed in Lukla, you will join the guide, with whom you can discuss the excursion. You’ll grab a meal whilst you’re in the town and thereafter start ascending the route to Phakding. The hike along the Dudhkoshi River is simultaneously magnificent and comfortable.

After having a hearty breakfast, we’ll depart from Phakding for Namche. The journey through Phakding to Namche parallels the rivers and streams and crosses multiple remarkable suspension bridges.

Our track leads us gradually into Sagarmatha National Park. The guides will help you get the permits you need. After passing the permission station, we would be moving downwards as we come nearer to the rivers beneath.

As the trail progresses, we’ll pass through some ancient communities in the Khumbu area. We shall explore the local communities. We may also anticipate encountering many animals on the pathway.

We’ll see a breathtaking panorama of snowcapped summits, adjacent peaks, and precipitous slopes once we reach Namche.

If you intend to travel to considerably higher elevations, gradually acclimating to the height is vital. The solution is to hike as far as possible throughout the daytime & sleep at low elevations. 

Since the journey is at a high altitude, altitude sickness is a concern. The body system should adapt to changes in elevation and climate.

During your stay in Namche, you can go for a short sightseeing tour across the neighborhood, witness the ancient home in the area, explore Sherpas traditions, arts and heritage, visit the Sherpa museum and stop by restaurants and pubs for local foods and drinks.

On the fourth day, we’ll take a lengthy and spectacular trek up the Dudh Koshi region, passing stupas across the route and enjoying vistas of snow-covered mountains. After some hours, we’ll arrive at Mong, which is among the Khumbu’s finest picturesque villages. Furthermore, the route makes its way to the Dudh Koshi River before continuing to Phortse Thenga. 

During this journey, there could be mesmerizing waterfalls, plus we will discover rhododendrons and coniferous woodland. 

At 4200 m, the path finally touches Dole. The panoramas of Khumbila and Tawoche mountains from Dole are breathtaking.

The journey from Dole to Machhermo is relatively simpler. The path begins in Dole and then climbs steeply via Lhabarma and Luza. The landscape, on the other hand, starts getting better each moment and above us starts to appear Cho Oyu.

Furthermore, the route goes on to Macchermo. An astonishing glimpse of Mt. Thamserku could be witnessed from the peak over Machhermo.

On the sixth day, we will ascend from Machhermo to Gokyo, passing by various magnificent lakes. The path begins in Macchermo and ascends to a mesmerizing hill. The hilltop offers a breathtaking picture of Kangtega.

The first Gokyo Lake would be observed on the path. Beyond, there will be many exquisite pastoral panoramic views alongside a few shepherds’ vacation homes.

Eventually, we arrive at Gokyo. A delightful tiny town located on the banks of Gokyo’s 3rd lake which is Dudh Pokhari.

On the seventh day of our adventure, we will trek to Gokyo Ri. We begin early in the morning since we got a major journey in front of us. We would like to be certain that we achieve it during the clear morning hours. We will undertake a short trek from Gokyo village towards the foot of Gokyo Ri.

Gokyo Ri is just a 2,000-foot ascent from the base. The trail doesn’t seem hard to accomplish, but getting at the top, is like one of those experiences trekkers fantasize about.

On the ninth day, we shall commence our journey from Phortse to Namche Bazaar. The trip begins with a rigorous hike back to Mong La that takes roughly 1 to 2 hours. Then we’ll make our way downhill to Sanasa.

The trail is steep, however, the climb isn’t really difficult. Through this, it’s a simple 1–2 hour trek down to Namche across the hill. You will have another opportunity to visit Namche Bazar before going back to Kathmandu.

The returning route from Namche to Lukla requires around six hours. While strolling at a moderate pace, we pass many suspension bridges. You might recognize traveling alongside the trail a few days earlier. Furthermore, we’ll cross the Hillary Bridge as well as various additional bridges draped in Buddhist devotional banners.
