Tsum Valley Trekking – 18 Days Brief Insight

Tsum Valley Trek directs you to the remote and isolated parts of Nepal. The off-beaten trail offers you pleasing nature and the unique cultures of the locals.

The Tsum Valley Trek takes you to the Manaslu region through various ancient sacred monasteries and gompas. Here, you can see rich art and architecture as well as get blessings from lord Budhha. Beautiful mountains surround the valley. The route passes through pine, juniper, and rhododendron forests. We will cross long and short suspension bridges over the rivers. Most of the route passes along the river banks.

The Tsum Valley trek is a mix of nature and culture. During most of the treks, you will be able to see the views of Ganesh Himal and Himal Chuli. The Tsum Valley Trek begins with a beautiful scenic drive to Soti Khola via Arughat. Soti Khola is the main starting point of the trek. From here, we will trek to Machha Khola. From Machha Khola, we will trek to Jagat and spend a night. Leaving Jagat, we will head to Lokpa. After Lokpa, our next destination is Chumling. From Chumling, we will head to Chhokang Paro.

The altitude starts to rise from here. After Chhokang Paro, we will trek to the Nile. The next day is a trek to Mu Gompa and visit Dhephyudonma. From here, we will take the trail to Rachen Gompa, with amazing views. Leaving Rachen Gompa, we will head to Gumba Lungdang. The views are spectacular during the trek. From here, we will make a quick trek to Ganesh Himal Base Camp.

After enjoying the base camp, we will descend back to Gumba Lundang. Finally, the trek starts to descend from this point. The trail descends to Lokpa and trek to Jagat. We will be leaving the beautiful mountain views behind. From Jagat, we will be descending to Lapu Bensi. Then we will get to Arughat. Finally, we will drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Enjoy this moment as they lead you to the hotel of your choice as you prepare to set out on an exciting adventure. You can spend the hour relaxing in your hotel room or take advantage of the chance to explore Thamel’s vibrant atmosphere.

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Arughat then to Soti Khola (730m/2,896ft)

We will give a start to our journey with a beautiful drive to Soti Khola. We will be driving in the Prithivi Highway. The drive passes through spectacular view of swift flowing Trishuli River. The journey passes through Dhading Bensi and reaches Arughat where the routes get a bit rough. The journey brings you to the view of Mt. Manaslu and Ganesh. Arughat is a large settlement area.

From Arughat, we will have to drive for 2 hours more to reach Soti Khola. After reaching Soti Khola, you can rest in the tea house and prepare yourself or the trek. Overnight stay in Soti Khola.

Day 03: Trek from Soti Khola (730m/2,896ft) to Machha Khola (890m/2,965ft)

Today we will make a start to our trek. After having breakfast we will head towards Machha Khola. Crossing the Soti Khola we will come across the Sal forest.

From here, we will climb on the ridge lying on the side of the Budhi Gandaki River. We will reach Khursane after crossing the rocky paths.

On the way, we can see the beautiful views of Annapurna Circuit. After crossing the Gurung Village – Lapubesi, the path goes down to sandy river bed.

From here, the trail reaches Nauli Khola and we will cross the suspension bridge which takes us t Machha Khola. Overnight stay in Machha Khola.

Day 04: Trek from Machha Khola (890m/2,965ft) to Jagat (1,400m/4,593ft)

Leaving Machha Khola, our trail directs towards Jagat. The trail passes through a fertile landscape which includes many ups and downs.

Then we will cross Tharo Khola and arrive at Khorlabesi. Gaining the altitude, we will pass through the natural hot spring of Nepal – Tatopani. Passing through the narrow valley, we will climb a ridge and cross the suspension bridge over Budhi Gandaki river.

Then we will walk on the stone staircase and pass through mani walls and prayer flags. Finally, we will reach the beautiful Jagat village. Overnight stay in Jagat.

Day 05: Trek from Jagat (1,400m/4,593ft) to Lokpa (2,040m/6,692ft)

We will have breakfast and continue the trek. We will register all the permits in the coming checkpoint that lies in Jagat. The trail passes through a ridge and crosses the suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River.

Continuing this pleasant trek we will separate our ways at Ekle Bhatti. The trail passes through small villages and you can see the Syar River flowing from Tsum Valley.

We will take a right turn from here and reach Lokpa village. From here, you can see the panoramic view of Manaslu range. this is a hidden village. Overnight stay in Lokpa.

Day 06: Trek from Lokpa (2,040m/6,692ft) to Chumling (2,386m/7,828ft)

Continuing the trail, we will trek to Chumling today. As we enter the valley, we will start getting the view of Ganesh and Boudha Himal. Then we will descend to Lungwa river valley via rhododendron forest.

Our trail reaches Gumling which is full of scenic views. Continuing the trek, we will cross the Syar Khola and reach the Chumling Village.

You can rest or explore the village in the evening. Here are monasteries that you can visit.  Overnight stay in Chumling village.

Day 07: Trek from Chumling (2,386m/7,828ft) to Chhokang Paro (3,031m/9,944ft)

After having breakfast, we will head towards Chhokang Paro. You can see the Tsum Valley opens from the Chhokang Paro. The trail continues and crosses the suspension bridge offering a view of Ganesh Himal, Himalchuli, and Boudha Himal. We will cross another suspension bridge over Serpu Khola and reach Gho Village.

Two hours of climbing from here will take us to Chhokang Paro. The village lies on a flat land that contains two settlements: Chhokang and Paro. Enjoy the place and overnight stay in Chhokang Paro.

Day 08: Trek from Chhokang Paro (3,031m/9,944ft) to Nile (3,361m/11,026ft)

Our today’s destination is the Nile. Nile is the last village in the upper Tsum Valley. Continuing the steps, we will pass Piren Phu Cave (pigeon cave). This cave holds a lot of religious importance.

It is said that Tibetan saints Milarepa meditated in this rugged cliff cave. From here, we will walk to the green meadow which gets narrower as we go up. On the way, you can see two monasteries which have beautiful carvings and arts.

Then, we will cross Shiar Khola with the help of a suspension bridge and reach Nile. Overnight stay in Nile.

Day 09: Trek from Nile (3,361m/11,026ft) to Mu Gompa (3,700m/12,139ft), visit Dhephyudonma Gompa (4,060m/13,320ft)

Today we have a short trek to complete. We will have breakfast and head to Mu Gompa. The trial passes through yak pastures and arid Trans Himalayan terrains.

Mu Gompa is the largest and sacred monastery of this region. It will only take us 3 to 4 hours to reach Mu Gompa. Mu Gompa is full of religious books. We will also visit the Dhephyudonma Gompa.

It is one of the oldest monasteries of the valley holding religious importance. It is situated in the top of the rugged mountain. Climbing here gains an altitude. Overnight stay in Mu Gompa.

Day 10: Trek from Mu Gompa (3,700m/12,139ft) to Rachen Gompa (3,240m/10,629ft)

Leaving Mu Gompa, our trail continues towards Rachen Gompa. The trail descends down the valley via Chuhule. Passing Phurba, we will walk along the bank of Siyar Khola. Then the trail crosses flat land covered with boulders. From here, we will follow the powerlines which takes us to Rachen Gompa.

Rachem Gompa is located in  Shiar Khola Valley and has one of largest monastery rich in arts. We will visit the monastery and stay for the night in Mu Gompa.

Day 11: Trek from Rachen Gompa (3,240m/10,629ft) to Gumba Lungdang (3,200m/10,498ft)

We will have breakfast in Rachen Gompa and lead the trail towards the south. The trail passes through Chhpkang Paro crossing the bridge. Then we will descend down Chumling.

From here, we will we will trek for two hours and reach a white gompa at Gho. From this point we will again descend through the narrow trail and cross the wooden bridge over Siyar Khola.

Then we will encounter a steep climb through beautiful rhododendron and pine forest. Finally passing the zigzag climb we will reach Gumba Lungdang. The area is full of prayer flags. Overnight stay in Gumba Lungdang.

Day 12: Trek from Gumba Lungdang (3,200m/10,498ft) to Ganesh Himal Base Camp (4,200m)

Today we will get on the pleasing part of the journey, along with excitement and pleasant views the trek duration is long as well. We will leave Gumba Lungdang and continue the trail on the beautiful forest.

The trek becomes difficult as we gain altitude. The trail passes through small valleys and ascends up the valley through forest. The trail descends down the river after crossing the pastures. Crossing the suspension bridge we will continue the trek along the forest.

Continuing the steps we will reach a ridge that takes us to green landscape. Then climbing up for 2 hours from this grassy land, we will reach Ganesh Himal Base Camp.

You will get an exotic view of Ganesh Himal from this base camp. Enjoying this view, we will descend back to Gumba Lundang for the night.

Day 13: Trek Gumba Lungdang (3,200m/10,498ft) to Lokpa (2,040m/6,692ft)

After having breakfast, our journey descends. The trail descends to Domje after corssing the Laugdang Khola. We will cross the jhulunga pul (swingy bridge) and walk along the bank of Siyar Khola.

Then the trail continues on a dense forest taking us to a deep George. Crossing the jhulungey pul, we will reach Ripche.

Walking down the stairs we will reach Bhatti Ghulmong. Then we will climb up through oine forest which takes us to Lokpa. Overnight stay in Lokpa.

Day 14: Trek from Lokpa (2,040m/6,692ft) to Jagat (1,400m/4,593ft)

After having breakfast, we will continue to descend along the Budhi Gandaki River. We will start to see fewer glimpses of mountains. The trail passes through terrains and forests.

Day 15: Trek from Jagat (1,400m/4,593ft) to Lapu Bensi (900m/2,952ft)

Our destination for today is Lapu Bensi. We will continue to descend through terrains and cross various suspension bridges.

Although it is a long trek, it will be easier as we will walk down to lower altitudes. We will cross a suspension bridge over Machha Khola and arrive at Nauli Khola.

Walking alon the Budhi Gandaki River bank, we will reach Lapu Bensi. Overnight stay in Lapu Nensi.

Day 16: Trek from Lapu Bensi (900m/2,952ft) to Arughat Bazaar (535m/1,755ft)

Today is our last trek of Tsum Valley Trek. We have a short trek to complete to reach Arughat. We will be following the same route we passed earlier.

The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River and comes to Soti Khola. From here, we will drive to Arughat Bazaar.

Finally you can rest here and share all the good memories created during the trek. Overnight stay in Arughta.

Day 17: Drive back to Kathmandu from Arughat

Ending the trek, we will drive back to Kathmandu. We will drive along the Trishuli River with some scenic views.

The drive is long but not boring. We will take few breaks for lunch and snacks. After reaching Kathmandu, we will drive you to the hotel.

You can manage your bags and relax for the night. You can also shop around the area if you want to. Overnight stay in the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 18: Final Departure
